RS Platou (Norway) purchase Cryoserver solution

EAST NORTHPORT, NY — March 17, 2008 — RS Platou is a leading international shipbroking company that serves the shipping and offshore industry, but its actual business is conducted online through email. To help it more efficiently and effectively manage and archive its volume of more than 35,000 email messages each week, the company turned to Forensic & Compliance Systems (http://www.Cryoserver.com/), the world's only forensic grade compliant message archiving solution, for its Cryoserver messaging archive appliance. "Communication is a very important part of our business," says Frank Knutsen head of Information Technology for RS Platou's world-wide communications and information network."All of our negotiations are conducted over email."

RS Platou, now nearly three-quarters of a century old, provides services including chartering, sales, purchasing and contracting of ships and offshore units worldwide. The company is headquartered in Oslo, with offices in Singapore, Houston, Moscow, Lagos, Copenhagen, Shanghai and Istanbul. Retaining its email for a minimum of five years was a strain for conventional backup technologies, which proved both too expensive and too time consuming.

Based on conversations with Cryoserver users, as well as his own research on other vendor email archive products, Knutsen concluded that Cryoserver met all of his requirements: it provided full replication so expensive backup procedures were no longer necessary; it was forensically secure—no messages could be deleted or altered in any way—so all email correspondence through the eDiscovery features would be acceptable for litigation in a court of law; it was searchable by keyword not only in the subject line, but throughout the entire message and any attachments so specific messages could be readily retrieved; and it was quick and easy to install and maintain. No other product offered all of these features.

Levels of access

One feature of Cryoserver that Knutsen particularly appreciates is the ability to securely assign different levels of access. “That was a very important issue for us,” he says. Knutsen, for example, has access not only to his own email but also to everyone else—s email in his department. Equally important, most individuals with the company have access only to their own email archives so proprietary information stays securely in its own holds.

Knutsen recognizes that the volume of corporate email is only going to increase, so another feature of the Cryoserver system he appreciates is its scalability. “We can add new disks and even stack new appliances to the existing system as we need them,” he says.

"Cryoserver is the perfect appliance for RS Platou’s secure and flexible compliance message archiving requirements," said Forensic & Compliance Systems Robin Bingeman, Product Manager at Cryoserver. “We are pleased to have been selected by them. Their message archiving will all be clear sailing from here.”

Cryoserver is a forensic email compliance solution that meets the data protection and privacy requirements of a wide range of organizations in industries including legal, finance and education, as well as government agencies. The Cryoserver email compliance archive solution is a tamper-evident, sealed appliance that is easy to implement and manage. Traditional email archiving solutions allow organizations to store data, but their lack of forensic and compliance capabilities prevents from being used in a court environment as admissible evidence. Cryoserver is the first email archiving product that successfully addresses this issue as it was built from the ground up to merge email archiving compliance and forensic capabilities.
