Using Cryoserver for Investigations

by Robin , on 26. June 2011 11:20 Permalink | Comments (0)

London - The staff at Cryoserver, an email archiving software solution, point out that increasingly, emails are becoming a big part of investigations.
Lately, some high-profile investigations have highlighted the important role that email can play.

For example, in a recent investigation, the BBC uncovered an email from Federation Internationale de Football Association (the soccer governing body) Vice President Jack Warner to the Football Association Chairman Lord David Triesman that supports allegations of bribery.  In the email, Warner suggested that FA purchase the rights to broadcast the 2010 World Cup on large screens in Haitian football (soccer) stadiums.  He says that a company had already purchased the rights for $1.6 million (£980,000), but said he could get the FA a deal for substantially less money.

FIFA said that it had not sold the Haitian broadcast rights for the 2010 World Cup and that nowhere in the world were the broadcast rights sold for as much as $1.6 million. Based on the email, FIFA has added charges of bribery to an ongoing investigation of Warner.

"Incidents such as these illustrate the importance of email archival solutions," explains Bingeman of Cryoserver, an email compliance company. "Increasingly, organizations need to search their emails for information or evidence in an investigation."

It is not only important to search the emails, but you must be sure the emails have not been tampered with. Many people are unaware that the emails in your inbox or sent items can be altered after being sent - or even deleted. The only way to preserve the email is by using our email archiving and compliance solution.  Cryoserver is a tamper evident environment where emails are captured as they are sent or received and archived in a forensic store.  Once in storage, they cannot be tampered with or changed.

"We have had customers who have had the experience of someone in their organization altering an email for their own purposes," explains Bingeman, of the Cryoserver exchange email archiving company. "But during the investigation, the client was able to check out the email archive and view the original, un-altered email.  This is one of the most valuable aspects of an email archiving appliance."

Increasingly, organizations are bound by regulations that govern email compliance. Even those companies that aren't subject to regulations can be sued.  During a lawsuit, businesses must produce all relevant documents - including e-documents such as emails and instant messages.  Many companies are required by law to keep emails for seven years.  So you not only need a means of storing them, but you also need an efficient way to search for them using a variety of different kinds of search terms (such as dates, subject lines, sender or recipient).  Our compliance archiving solution will allow you to find any email quickly and easily.
